Mix'N'Match

Day 13

Leo giggled and opened the door, pulling Dimitri in after him. "Hi! We’re here!"

"Really?" Ezra asked sarcastically.

Leo wiggled his nose. "It smells like disinfectant in here."

"Really? I would have expected it to smell like fresh spring meadows."

"Don’t be a bitch," Leo shot back cheerfully. "Disinfectant is gross."

Ezra raised an eyebrow. "Better than the alternative."

When Leo cocked his head to the side, Ezra elaborated, "Medication, sweat, and feces."

Leo wrinkled his nose again. "Gross."

"How are you?" Dimitri broke in.

Ezra smiled up at him, blaming the dopey grin he knew he wore on the drugs. "Fine. They gave me a shitload of morphine."

Dimitri frowned. "And other than the pain?"

"Fine," Ezra said, carefully not shrugging. He had learned his lesson earlier.

"So, are they still going to let you out soon?"

"Three days," Ezra said with a shrug. "But I’m not going anywhere for awhile."

Leo pouted. "Ah, you don’t still have issues with living with us, do you?"

Ezra rolled his eyes. "Of course I do. No offense, I don’t enjoy being pushed around or forced to remain married. Besides, the week thing was if I got, like, a live-in nurse or four."

"Why?"

"Because I can’t eat on my own, much less stand."

Leo frowned. "But you said…"

"I’m fine."

"You obviously are not."

"Shush, Darkness, I’m fine."

"Darkness?" Leo asked, glancing back at Dimitri with interest.

"Fitting, don’t you think?"

Leo giggled and nodded.

Dimitri sighed. "Call me whatever you want, but please don’t strain yourself."

"I just said I wasn’t leaving this place, didn’t I?" snapped Ezra. "It’s fine. I’m fine. Or, well, I’ll be fine. Now, tell me about something."

Dimitri blinked at him and Leo settled into the chair next to the bed. "About what?"

"Anything," Ezra said, rolling his eyes expressively. "Just…anything."

Leo giggled. "This one time, at band camp-"

"Really?"

"Yes. I was a band geek as a kid."

"Wait, what, really?"

"Yep."

"I didn’t know that," Dimitri said softly. "What did you play?"

"Tuba."

Ezra grinned. "Was it bigger than you?"

Leo laughed. "I was actually the biggest kid up through seventh grade."

Ezra’s eyebrows shot up.

"Then I stopped growing," Leo added.

Ezra laughed and even Dimitri smiled. Ezra grabbed Leo’s hand and squeezed. "It’s okay, Bunny Boy," Ezra said, grinning. "I like men who are shorter than me." He glanced up at Dimitri who was still standing. "And men who are taller than me."

Both men smiled at him and Dimitri perched on the side of the bed.

"So, what about band camp?" Ezra asked.

Leo giggled and launched into a story.

Ezra listened to Leo talk for a while, not letting go of his hand, and gradually moved his leg until it was resting against Dimitri’s back. He liked these two. They were sweet.

But, soon enough, he felt recent events catching up with him. A yawn finally split his face. He had been fighting off drooping eyelids for awhile now, but there was no hiding that. Leo looked at him in concern.

Dimitri said softly, "You should rest," as he stood.

Ezra rolled his eyes and freed his hand from Leo’s. "Fine," he mumbled, too tired to really object. "Bye."

"I’ll come back tomorrow," Leo promised.

"You have to work," Dimitri said softly.

"Wha-" Another yawn interrupted him. "What do you do?"

"I’m a waiter," he said cheerfully. "It’s fun. I’ll come by beforehand, ‘kay?"

Ezra nodded and curled into the pillows. "Fine. Bye."

Leo leaned down and kissed him quickly on the lips. "Hope you feel better!" He bounced up and out the door.

Dimitri blinked once, before giving Ezra a silent, embarrassed smile. "Sorry about him. I’ll come again tomorrow as well."

Ezra just nodded, too surprised to say anything.
